YUNLI began with a single vase and a long winter. We were learning to throw porcelain in Jingdezhen, the thousand-year-old city of ceramics, when we first held a piece that had been fired to a true moon white. It seemed to hold the light instead of reflecting it. We have been chasing that white ever since.

The studio is deliberately small. A handful of forms, refined over and over: the vase, the bowl, the mountain, and a few objects for the tea table. We make in small batches because the clay itself changes with the season, and each batch deserves its own attention.
